At Breathworks we take research seriously and continually evalute the clinical effects of our mindfulness-based pain management programme. In 2006 we completed a five year preliminary study of our pain management courses using quantitative methods which showed very good outcomes. Read a paper outlining our results.

Our Mindfulness Questionnaire

We have also been developing our own questions looking at areas most sensitive to process and change. Preliminary results from the questionnaire for course participants are included at the end of the Powerpoint handout. They can be summarised as:

  • Greater acceptance of pain, and ability to maintain perspective
  • Increased sense of kindness to self and others
  • Increased awareness of the beautiful
  • Greater sense of choice in response to unpleasant physical sensations, feelings and thoughts

Longitudinal Study

Recently, a PhD student has finished a longitudinal qualitative study, including sixteen people from the Breathworks programme. This also shows very good outcomes and will be published later in 2008. For information on this study please contact us at info@breathworks.co.uk
